Outstanding Arizona DUI Lawyer BLOG

Besides being a great informational resource on the law, a legal BLOG can also serve as a conduit for getting new clients. Koplow & Patane, a Phoenix personal injury and DUI law firm, maintains an outstanding DUI BLOG.

A former vehicular crimes prosecutor, Lawrence Koplow, uses his BLOG (www.koplowondui.com ) to discuss salient DUI topics in Arizona. What makes his BLOG interesting versus most legal BLOGs is how he personalizes each posting. Rather than writing a legal treatise on a particular subject, Lawrence uses the facts of his actual cases to tell a story that both entertains and informs.

A great example is his most recent post in which he was able to secure probation for a client after the prosecutor had offered a 3.5 year jail sentence. His posting offers great insight into how a criminal investigation can proceed and the importance of thorough and exhaustive witness interviews.

Did You Know??? Attorney Angelo Patane was involved in the largest verdict in the history of Arizona; a $1,500,000,000 (one-billion-five-hundred-million dollar) jury verdict.

Rosenstein Law Group Release 3 New Sites

Congrats to the Rosenstein Law Group on the release of three new FindLaw websites; www.rosensteinbizlaw.com, www.rosensteininjurylaw.com, and www.scottsdale-duilawyer.com

Phoenix Family Lawyer Upgrades Site

Scott David Stewart, a Phoenix Family Lawyer, just upgraded his family law website to include flash animation. The flash includes a sequence of family law images that rotate on the home page.
In my opinion, the flash greatly enhances the design of an already effective legal site.

The Law Offices of Scott David Stewart handles divorce, child custody matters, child support, property division, and spousal maintenance agreements. The firm also handles criminal defense matters in Arizona.

Turkey & Painkillers

As I write this I am sitting in the ER waiting room at Scottsdale Osborn Hospital. This morning I badly injured my left knee while playing in a basketball tournament. While I am no doctor, I am afraid that the loud popping sound I heard and the shooting pain fortells a torn ligament. Hopefully I am wrong and its just a bad strain. Either way I will be hobbling around for awhile and missing Thanksgiving dinner. While an inconvenience, thankfully thats all it is....

As I lay here waiting (they just moved me to a bed!) I realize I have much to be thankful about. I have a 3 wonderful and healthy kids; Samantha 6, Casey 4, and Evan 2, a beautiful and supportive wife Heather, and great friends.

I am also thankful for the great people I work with at FindLaw. The project managers, writers, designers, attorney editors, account managers, search engine optimization specialists, and developers all do a wonderful job and are a big reason why I love my job. The high level work they consistently produce sells itself and makes my job easy.

Happy Thanksgiving!

$1.7 million Medical Malpractice Settlement

Richard Remender, a medical malpractice attorney based in Sedona, recently helped secure a $1.7 million dollar settlement for a client in Nebraska.

In 2004 the client went to the hospital after suffering a stroke. He was treated, put on blood thinners and sent home. Two weeks later he suffered a recurrence and returned to the same hospital. It was decided to do a spinal tap to determine the existence of spinal meningitis. The doctors were negligent in failing to recall he'd been put on blood thinners just two weeks before. As a result, he suffered a foot-long blood clot and was permanently paralyzed and confined to a wheel chair. That case settled in Nebraska for one million six hundred and forty thousand dollars. The claim was worth much more but the State of Nebraska has a cap on damages of one million seven hundred thousand dollars.

Richard has gotten a number of successful results for his clients over the last few years;
  • A plaintiff mother of five children sought a legal abortion from a Phoenix physician. She and her husband agreed they could not afford another child. He determined she was thirteen weeks pregnant and sought to induce a abortion by use of a toxic solution. In fact, he was wrong and she was thirty-two weeks pregnant. She gave birth to a living child who was deformed by the botched abortion. That claim settled for 2.2 million dollars.

  • A woman passenger on a motorcyle was badly injured when another motorist pulled in front of the bike she was on. She suffered a drop foot and other injuries. That claim settled for the policy limits of three hundred thousand dollars.

  • A young man working on a framing crew stepped on a crossbeam that was improperly afixed to another. It gave way causing him to fall twenty feet headfirst to the slab below. Fortunately he made a complete recovery from his injuries. This case is unique in that usually Workman's Compensation laws usually prevent a worker from suing his employer for injuries on the jobsite caused by the negligence of a co-employee. That claim settled for seven hundred and twenty five thousand dollars.

  • In 2002 a Sedona woman had a routine diskectomy on a Friday. This procedure is routinely done by a surgeon through the front of the neck to implant either a piece of the patient's hip bone or in the alternative a piece of plastic between the vertebrae to relieve pain in the neck. By Sunday she was having trouble breathing, as though there was some physical obstruction in the airway. Her husband took her to the Sedona ER where she was intubated by a technician. The supervising physician negligently allowed the tech to collapse a lung after which she passed away. That claim settled for seven hundred and forty thousand dollars.

Did You Know??? Richard Remender is a cancer survivor and is actively involved in a cancer survivor support group

Adding a Newsletter

Does your firm write a weekly or monthly newsletter? Do you write practice related articles from time to time? If so, you should probably include them on your website. Besides being a great source of new searchable custom content, it will likely serve as a great resource for readers.

If you don't have time to write your own newsletter we can help. We provide monthly newsletters in 12 different practice areas. With a FindLaw newsletter subscription, a new practice related article is added to your site every month.

Platt & Westby, a Phoenix general practice law firm has 3 FindLaw newsletter subscriptions on their site; Real Estate, Probate & Estate Planning, and Divorce. The dynamic content has definitely contributed to the site's high search engine rankings for these areas.

On Friday I got a chance to catch up with long time FindLaw client, David Patton. David is the lead attorney for the Patton Law Practice located in Scottsdale, AZ. Focused exclusively on plaintifs medical malpractice and nursing home neglect, the firm has been growing very fast. To meet that growth, the firm is looking to bring in an experienced litigation attorney. The ideal candidate should have at least 10 years of litigation experience and a history of successful results. Most importantly the candidate should share David's commitment to change healthcare for the better.

The salary starts at $150k/yr along with a generous yearly bonus that is tied to the amount of cases closed.

The firm is a high quality low volume practice that has the financial resources to accept and litigate any medical malpractice case that has merit. To help screen potential cases, the firm employs a registered OR nurse and will be soon adding an in-house physician.

*If you are interested in learning more about the position, please contact the firm through their website.

Duplicate Content Fliter

In just about every law school, taking credit for a copied paper would get you kicked out of school. While the consequences may not seem as dire, stealing web content that is not your own will get you kicked out of the search results.

In their quest to provide a great search experience, most search engines have instituted a duplicate content filter to catch plagiarized content. Therefore, it is vitally important that your site contains original custom content. It is equally important to remain vigilant that others are not copying your content. To see if your content has been copied you can go to either similar page checker or copyscape.

Besides the negative ranking consequences, taking content that is not yours is unethical and reflects very poorly upon the attorney who does it.
